‘Your first EURES Job’: What’s in it for young people?

Originally established in 2012 as a pilot programme, Your first EURES Job (YfEJ) is a targeted job mobility scheme that’s helping talented young EU job seekers to access opportunities being offered by businesses and organisations across Europe.

‘Your first EURES Job’: What’s in it for young people?

Why join the YfEJ initiative?

The YfEJ scheme is ideal for young people who are struggling to find work in their home country and are looking for a new opportunity abroad. Covering all 28 EU Member States, Iceland and Norway, the scheme is open to candidates with different levels of education and/or work experience. The opportunities on offer include jobs and apprenticeships lasting at least six months, as well as traineeships (at least three months).

What are the key benefits of YfEJ?

  • You will receive tailored-made job search, matching and recruitment support to help you find the ideal opportunity;
  • You may be eligible for financial support to help cover some of costs related to pursuing an opportunity in another EU country (e.g. a face-to-face interview, relocation costs, language training);
  • You can benefit from free support services such as pre- and/or post-placement training (languages etc.), mentoring support and welcome support in your destination country.

Who can take part in the YfEJ scheme?

In order to join the YfEJ scheme, you need to be:

  • 18-35 years old;
  • a national and legal resident of an EU28 Member State, Iceland or Norway;
  • unable to find a job or training opportunity in your country;
  • willing to relocate to another EU28 Member State, Iceland or Norway for a job, apprenticeship or traineeship.

How can I join YfEJ?

YfEJ is implemented by Public Employment Services (PES) in each country that is member of the EURES network. To join the scheme, all you need to do is register with one of these PES (usually by completing an application form, submitting your details through a website or emailing a contact address).

If your country doesn’t specifically provide YfEJ services yet, then you can contact any of the organisations on the list. We would recommend choosing one of the lead employment services in Italy, Sweden, France or Germany.

Where can I find more information?

The Your first EURES Job pages on the EURES website are a great place to start if you’d like to find out more about the scheme. There is also further information, and a number of useful publications such as the Your first EURES Job guide, available on the DG EMPL website.

Séanadh

Tá sé mar aidhm ag na hailt faisnéis a sholáthar d’úsáideoirí na tairsí EURES ar ábhair agus treochtaí reatha agus chun plé agus díospóireacht a spreagadh. Ní gá go léiríonn a n-ábhar dearcadh an Údaráis Eorpaigh Saothair (ELA) nó an Choimisiúin Eorpaigh. Ina theannta sin, ní fhormhuiníonn EURES agus ELA na suíomhanna gréasáin tríú páirtí a luaitear thuas.
