Top 8 online collaboration tools for remote teams

Working remotely has its benefits. You don’t spend any time travelling to the office and you get to wear your most comfortable clothes. But if you are working from home during the pandemic, you might be finding it difficult to collaborate with others

That’s why we have prepared a list of useful online tools that will allow you to share files, do video calls and presentations, collaborate with co-workers and manage projects.

Note: All tools in this article are free to use, but they also have paid versions for an upgraded experience.

Project management

Asana

Asana can provide a good overview of all projects currently going on in your organisation. You can create to-do lists for ongoing projects, set reminders for upcoming deadlines and send requests to colleagues.

Trello

Trello allows you to manage your projects online using cards on a board. Imagine writing tasks on notes and sticking them in columns on a wall. You can write on them, take them off the wall, and move them around – it’s that easy.

Communication

Slack

Slack is a powerful collaboration tool, with millions of users around the globe. You can send direct messages and files to individual colleagues or a group of co-workers. In addition, different departments and teams can have dedicated communication channels.

Chanty

Chanty is a chat app that lets you communicate with your teammates. Besides exchanging text messages, you can also do audio and video calls and share your screen with other call participants.

Video conferencing

Zoom

Zoom has gained a lot of popularity, especially since the start of the pandemic, as a preferred tool for having video calls, online presentations and webinars. It offers a wide variety of features and it can be integrated with other programmes, such as Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar.

Whereby

Whereby is probably one of the easiest tools to use for video calls. No need for logins and downloading extra software – everything happens right in your browser.

Document and file sharing

Dropbox

Dropbox has a user-friendly interface that allows you to easily store and share documents even with non-Dropbox users. It’s like storing files right on your hard drive – you just need to drag them over to the little Dropbox icon.

Google Drive

With 15 GB of free storage, Google Drive is probably one of the most generous file sharing tools. Your documents are easily accessible by you and your team, and you can open them from any device.

We hope these tools will help bring your team together in these times of social distancing. Are you planning your first online virtual meeting or webinar? Check out our tips for organising a successful online meeting.
