#Road2FairTransport: Raising awareness of the rights and obligations of drivers and operators

In 2022, the European Labour Authority (ELA) organised the #Road2FairTransport campaign to inform drivers and operators about the applicable EU social legislation in the road transport sector.

The campaign covered changes brought by Mobility Package 1 and rules and regulations regarding posting of drivers, driving and resting time, enforcement activities, and the tachograph.

Besides a social media campaign on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Google Search and the Waze app, ELA launched an outdoor campaign on billboards and gas stations in a number of EU countries, as well as a dedicated campaign website.

Information leaflets on the posting of drivers and driving and resting time rules are also available in all EU languages and 10 third-country languages. Furthermore, posters and information videos were made accessible in all EU languages and other videos both on ELA’s YouTube channel and the campaign website.

The new rules aim to make transport operations across the EU fair and safe for all.

“It is essential to ensure that everyone working in the road transport sector is well informed about their rights and obligations. This is crucial if we want to make sure that the changed rules in the road transport sector are enforced effectively.”

Cosmin Boiangiu, Executive Director of ELA

To raise awareness of transport workers’ rights, ELA has also held a number of local information sessions and roadshows targeting drivers and operators. More roadshows are to come in 2023, including a campaign targeting workers and employers from the construction sector.
