A job fair just a click away: IT talent from all over Europe plugged-into Irish European Online Job Day

Now imagine you can attend an online job fair which features company presentations, vacancies, a smooth application process, interviews, and meeting potential employers online: all just a click away! Well, this scenario already exists.

European (Online) Job Days is a series of continuous and dynamic events, that bring jobseekers and employers together, to promote job opportunities. Onsite or online, these Europe-wide recruitment fairs match jobseekers with employers in other European countries. Participants also get practical advice about living and working abroad.

On May 4^th 2017, EURES Ireland/European Employment Service of the Department of Social Protection, together with the direct support of the European Commission held a local European (Online) Job Day titled “Cork where IT is @......check IT out”. Targeting IT and Business Service talent from across Europe, the online event aimed at pulling in ICT talent to Cork, Ireland to join the best companies in the sector, such as Apple, Dell, Google and Logitech, amongst others. Coming to Cork?

The organisers underscored that Cork is already home to 150 overseas companies which currently employ 28,500 people. “The strong base of existing international brand name companies and exciting new Irish companies coupled with good quality infrastructure and good quality of life, makes Cork an attractive location for companies and jobseekers”, explain the local EURES Advisers. Whether you see yourself working for a tech giant or a dynamic start-up leading new age technologies, Cork might be the place for you.

Online, all in one place

The event took place entirely online between 10am to 13.30 on May 4^th, was live broadcasted and you can even access the broadcast online today right here. Jobseekers had the chance to look for and apply for jobs in real time; to contact employers, book job interviews, and use the live chat function to ask questions. EURES Ireland also made several relevant and useful presentations available to jobseekers on the day. One of those featured was ‘Your First EURES Job’ that addressed European financial support available to mobile workers. Another talked about ‘Living and Working in Ireland’. Employers promoted their recruitment needs by publishing vacancies directly on the platform, via the automatic screening and matching of CVs, by scheduling and conducting online interviews on the day of the event and with a Q&A live chat session with prospective employees.

ICT Online European Job Day was held by EURES Ireland/European Employment Service of the Department of Social Protection, together with the direct support of the European Commission. The event was part of a broader initiative - European Employment Week, that is meant to give awareness to the services and supports that are available to employers and jobseekers through the European Labour Market.
